Jeep Cold Air Intakes
A cold air intake is one of the first bolt-ons most Jeep owners add. It opens up airflow to the 3.6L Pentastar V6 that powers modern Wranglers and Gladiators (and the 5.7L HEMI in the Grand Cherokee), sharpens throttle response, and adds a deeper intake growl — with a washable filter you clean instead of replace.
The one thing that matters most is fitment: intakes are built for a specific engine and generation. A JL kit won't bolt into a JK, a Wrangler kit won't clear a Gladiator's airbox routing, and the early 2007–2011 JK ran a 3.8L V6, not the 3.6L.

Open airbox vs. sealed box
On the trail, a sealed / closed-box intake (like Volant PowerCore or S&B) keeps dust and water crossings out of your filter — the smarter pick for a Jeep that actually wheels. An open filter (K&N, Injen) trades some protection for the most airflow and the loudest induction note — great for a street/overland Jeep that rarely sees deep water.
Oiled vs. dry filter
Oiled cotton filters (K&N) flow the most air but need occasional cleaning and re-oiling, and over-oiling can foul a MAF sensor. Dry filters are lower-maintenance and more forgiving. Both massively outlast a paper factory filter.
Do I need a tune?
For a bolt-on cold air intake on the 3.6L, no — it's a direct-fit upgrade. A tune only becomes worthwhile once you start stacking mods (intake + exhaust + throttle body).
California / CARB
If you're in California or an emissions-check county, confirm the specific kit carries a CARB EO number — many Jeep intakes are 50-state legal, but not all. It's listed on each product page.

Does a cold air intake add horsepower to a Jeep Wrangler?
Modest on its own — a few hp and a bit of torque on the 3.6L — but the throttle response and sound gains are immediate. Bigger power comes when it's paired with a tune and exhaust.
Will a JK intake fit my JL?
No. The JK (2007–2018) and JL (2018+) have different engine bays and airbox routing. Always buy by generation.
Open or sealed intake for an off-road Jeep?
Sealed/closed-box for dust and water crossings; open filter for a street or overland build where sound and max airflow matter more.
Oiled or dry filter — which should I run?
